INTERVIEW WITH Anger Management specialist Martin Brenner, CCDC

By Mark Ariel

We all know what anger is, and we’ve all felt it: whether as a fleeting annoyance or as full-fledged rage. Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems at work, in your personal relationships and in the overall quality of your life. It can also make you feel as though you’re at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion.

“To handle anger in a healthy, healing way is one of the goals of my practice,” says Martin Brenner, CCDC, a Beverly Hills-based Certified Anger Management Specialist 11. “What my clients come to learn is that anger is a healthy emotion that needs to be expressed freely, but therapeutically.” Most anger addicts tend to blame others for their outbursts. To minimize the seriousness of the damage they are causing makes it difficult to motivate them to work for lasting change.

“Anger management enables us to function assertively and rationally when anger comes up, with the ability to protect our rights and express out needs when we feel violated,” Brenner explains. “The goal of my anger management counseling is also to help clients control distorted emotions that occur under the influence of alcohol and prescription medications.”

I specialize in Anger Management classes, Domestic violence counseling, Alcohol Addiction, Drug Addiction, Life Skill development, Problem Solving skills, Coordinator Support, Relapse Prevention, Risk Management, Interpersonal communication skills.
